A geoportal is a type of web portal used to find and access geographic information (geospatial information) and associated geographic services via the Internet. Geoportals are important for effective use of geographic information systems (GIS) and a key element of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).

As in the case for the Joint Management Area project such technology is important which will enables the discovery and use of geospatial resources including datasets, rasters, and Web services. 

The main Application being use is the ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise which include all the neccessary components to make the portal functional such as

- ArcGIS server

- Portal for ArcGIS

- ArcGIS Data Store

- ArcGIS Web Adaptor
